ANALYSIS and OPINION:
Trump called the GOP together to have a midterm convention. This was/is highly unusual. There’s no doubt a huge reason was that Trump and the GOP are not, according to recent polls, doing well and are thus at risk of losing control of he House of Representatives, the Senate or both. In the later case, it would put Trump at risk of being impeached yet again and perhaps even cause him to be removed from office.
So what does Trump do? He shamelessly offers payola to voters to elect as many Republicans as possible so that the GOP remains in control of Congress.
Aside from the ethics or lack thereof and the horrific precedent Trump’s offer sets for the way future campaigning will be conducted his offer magnifies and once again draws our attention to the horrible state of the federal government’s finances. Make no mistake the U.S. is in terrible financial shape and everyone, including future generations are about to suffer because of it. And the fact of the matter is, it seems that Trump and his oligarch friends don’t seem to care.
