Howdy folks

Stony here comin’ atchya

With some really

Good cookin’ tonight

GURU is out

Aimlessly tryin’ to find

Some new tunes

And maybe even a new band

To play with

Happy huntin GURU !

Our first tune was recorded

By the guy who was the lead singer

For what was clearly

One of the greatest Motown acts

Of the 60s, 70s and beyond

However, he had a fallin’ out with them

And our first tune is a tune that

He wrote  and then released

About two years after he split with the Temptations

And embarked on his own successful solo career

So let’s kick it off tonight with

Eddie Kendricks  doin’   Keep on Truckin

https://youtu.be/QgAtvJNIdrU?si=xhUm_hSatnH0fA40

Alright

now that Mr. Kendricks got us all goin’

Let’s meet a band

Originally from Chapell Hill North Carolina

who

According to the Oracle of Wiki

Play a fusion of swing, Delta Blues, gypsy jazz

And Klezmer music

They played at President Clinton’s second inaugural

And at the 1996 Summer Olympics

Their name is Southern slang for a type of moonshine.

But let’s not dally around with details

Let’s give this group a listen

Here’s the

Squirrel Nut Zippers with  Put a Lid on It

https://youtu.be/BrgJmyPh2UI?si=fw1Chm0Fdwg6exs3

Speaking of regional acts

Now I know that Yinz gives GURU and I

A lot of grief about

Callin’  “Y’all” and “Yuz Guyz”

Yinz

But since all of Yinz is

Sorta honorary Yinzers now anyway

You’ll all naturally be very interested in

Maybe headin’ down the ole PA turnpike

This weekend to the Burgh

To take in

“Yinzerfest”

….yes Yinz heard that right

YINZERFEST

It’s right up there with Festivus

For the rest of us.

My gosh

Some say

It’s better than Christmas

And Hannukah put together

Holy Cow!

Yinzerfest

Think about it

Yinz can just bathe in the pure joy

The sheer ecstacy

Of knowing what its like to be a Yinzer

Just be sure to getchya a Primanti Brothers sandwich

Complete with the fries ….ON (meaning “in”) the sandwich.

This ain’t McDonalds with no “side order’ of fries.

No. the fries go on the sandwich itself.

And while your at it

 GURU’s hometown of

Irwin PA

Right there on the exit before Yinz

Get to the Burgh

Claims to be the originating franchise

That started the

BIG MAC

Their little display there claims such but

That’s a long…and very contested story

But anyway

You’ll soon learn …in the words of

Douglas Mariani, one of Yinzerfest’s founders

That:

a “Yinzer is more than just how we talk;

 it’s who we are.”

Yes… Yinz can

check out the details

Right here

Okay we all know that GURU

Has done more than

his share of singin’ in his time

And so it’s kinda hard to believe that

We aint had our next artist on yet.

In fact

we oughta be ashamed of ourselves

Folks you are about to

See and hear

One of the most amazing vocalists

Ever to set foot on

any stage

anywhere

I mean ya can’t ever accuse

Ms. J of not puttin’

heart

Soul

and everythin’ else she’s got

Into a tune

And believe me what comes out

Simply leaves one in awe.

This lady truly has religion when it comes

To singin’

And its just so incredibly sad that her career

Was cut so short so many many years ago.

But at least we get a chance to relive

One of the most amazing TV performances

I’ve ever seen….or heard

Here’s the legendary Janis Joplin singin as only she can

To Love Somebody

EDITORIAL  (Opinion and Analysis)

Last October Hamas launched coordinated terrorist attacks against Israelis, justifying same on the basis of  Israel’s occupation of what they say are Palestinian territories. (We won’t argue that point one way or another here.  However, it is true that Isael now occupies more territory than was mandated when Israel was first founded in the late 1940s and that the territories  it now occupies include what were formerly Palestinian territories.)   In any event, the Hamas attack was conducted with vicious brutality and grievous atrocities were, in fact, committed by the Hamas attackers on innocent Israelis. The last estimates were that there were/are about 1,300 Israeli deaths and that about 250 or so Israelis were taken hostage by Hamas and many of those thought to be held as such are still unaccounted for.

Israel responded with tremendous ferocity and invaded Gaza literally destroying large business and residential areas of Gaza.

On the other side, according the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, there have been over 34,000 Gazan deaths since the start of the Israeli invasion. However, it is estimated that 70% of them are women and minors and that about 90 % were civilian.  In other words, the vast majority of the non-Israeli deaths have been innocent victims of the conflict. This would put Palestinian civilian deaths at over 30,000. Thus, innocent Palestinian casualties have far exceeded those on the Israeli side.

Some might say that Isael has a right to defend itself and eradicate the terrorist threat that it has clearly confronted since its founding in the 1940s. However, one has to wonder how long America will be willing to give Israel unconditional support when such a huge number of innocent Palestinians, including women and children, are killed, injured or maimed as a result of Israel’s: (i) continued occupation, if not annexation, of new Palestinian territories; and (ii) the fact that America’s support continues to push it into more and more seriously dangerous confrontations, if not outright conflict, with various Arab, Palestinian, Iranian and other Islamic regimes and factions in an increasingly wide arc around not only the Middle East, but also Northeastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the oil rich Persian Gulf.  And this is especially so, when Iran, if not Saudi Arabia as well, are close to becoming nuclear powers.

The Israeli government would be well advised to recognize that the U.S. has over the last several decades seen a big increase in immigrants, and yes even voters, whose ancestry hails from Islamic portions of the Middle East.  Last estimates are that there are now about 3.5 million Muslims in the U.S, which is about 1.1% of the U.S. population.  In January of 2018, Al Jazeera cited a Pew Research Center study that projected that by the year 2040 Muslims will surpass the Jews to become the second largest religious group in the United States behind Christians.  In fact, they also project that by 2050 there will be 1.5 times as many Muslims in the U.S. as there will be Jews.  And what may even be more significant is where the Muslims are located.  The “swing” state of Michigan comes to mind as being a potentially crucial state in any close national election. The point of the foregoing being that going forward, it is probable that American politicians are going to be forced  into taking a more balanced, if not neutral, position when it comes to Israeli/Arab/Palestinian issues than it has in the past. Otherwise, they will risk losing the next election.

Beyond the foregoing, one has to wonder how wise it is for the Israeli government to inflict such carnage on Palestinians.  How successful can the Israelis military, through the use of force and the excruciating pain and suffering it causes, ever be in totally eradicating the firmly entrenched belief by most Palestinians that they have been fundamentally wronged by Israel. Will not the massive casualties sustained by tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians only increase the long term hatred for Israel that many Palestinians understandably feel?   Isn’t the extent of the carnage more likely than not to extend this hatred into additional future generations.

One final point is worth mentioning. Given the foregoing, isn’t a continuation of policies similar to those of the Netanyahu government going to cause a rise in anti-Semitism in the United States if not now, then at some point in the not too distant future?

—————————-

Okay,….. thanks Rufus

and now that we’ve been reminded

of what ails us

Our next group

Really needs no introduction.

We had them on a couple of years ago.

They originally met while sharing a drink

And having an impromptu jam session

In Athens Georgia

They are a new wave/punk band

who found great success in the 80s

Of particular note in this next video is

Ricky Wilson.  He is the guitar player

His sister,  Cindy is the lead vocalist in

The sexy white outfit.

Both of them put on performances

That can only be described as intense

And requiring an amazing amount of focus

And endurance.

Ricky unfortunately died a few short years

After this performance of AIDs.

After he died Keith Strickland the drummer

Became the bands guitar player.

But enough background

Let’s just enjoy the

B-52s   with  Give Me Back My Man

https://youtu.be/oD3W9CaiX8A?si=mjSmnzINer85DqUe

[yes indeedy…quite a work out that was.!!]

Okay,  what’s this

Well…predictably enough

Lil Suzi  has been rumagin’ around the garage again

Gosh Suzi

Where did ya find this one?

Whewwww…

Man does it stink !!

Oh my

Awwww….

That’s just gross

Just gross

Folks,  seems there’s a carcass

In the bottom of Suzi’s box

Some little critter

…I frankly can’t even tell what it is…

Geeesshhh

Here get rid of this thing will ya

Anyway

I think it was a mouse

But I ain’t sure

But it was definitely dead

Anyway…Suzi’s box

Always satisfies

Yes indeedy

Seems she’s brought us

Another morsel of pure pleasure

Ahem

Listening… pleasure that is.

This is from a 60s garage band from

Tacoma Washington

But look at this…wow

they seem to still be doin’ their thing

And performing  here and there

Even today.

In any event

Yinz all need to strap yourselves in for

The Sonics and a great tune…called

Shot Down

https://youtu.be/YWoNqXfRABQ?si=bInBjK3JwjnlB24p

 Yeah,  I really enjoyed that

Thanks Suzi

Okay time to wind up tonight’s episode

And boy do we have a treat for all Yinz

Most of yinz will remember this from the

Cover

Yes the cover version

That Bow Wow Wow did back

In the old MTV days of the 80s

But it was actually originally done by our next group

And boy is this amazing

Not sure where this clip is from

Maybe that old show

Shin Dig that my babysitter

Daryl used to make me watch

…instead of great entertainment like

“Combat” with Vic Morrow

Or somethin’

I’m not sure

But these gals, just ….

Well…..

…words can’t do ‘em justice

And oh yeah

The band is great too

And like one of the comments says

One does hear just a tad of

Bo Diddley influence in all this

But….Copyright issues aside

Here are the Strangeloves with

I Want Candy

https://youtu.be/IOrQ927LM-Q?si=n4BMjAuf3hEvCN92

Did I ever tell yinz that I love the 60s !!!

I mean that was absolutely

One of the

All-time best videos

I’ve ever seen.

Maybe even

THE best !

And looky here

GURU who’s over in the control room

Is just a grinnin’ from ear to ear

he just gave us

a big thumbs up too !

I mean

The choreaography

The outfits

The girls

…and oh yes

…the band

Its just sooooo,

Teenage and All American

Just perfect…just perfect…Wow !!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it

Half as much as I did….

So, for GURU, Suzi

And me,  Stony Riva

All we can say is….

Yinz are the best

Thanks for listen’

Thanks for watchin’

And so

Until next time

Goodnight

And don’t let the bed bugs bite.
