OPINION and ANALYSIS:
This post and its associated video are being published with the critically important 2026 midterm elections in mind.
The video itself is only 3 minutes and cannot come close to addressing all the major problems that the Trump presidency has created. We basically pick two major issues to discuss and will post other videos on the other subject. Immigration is perhaps the major reason that Trump has the support that he has. However, if one looks at one important fact (there are others) there is reason to believe that Trump has little or no credibility when it comes to his dealings with the immigration issue. Another even more important point discussed in our video concerns the fact that Trump has fundamentally altered the personnel and workings of 43 heretofore independent federal agencies in his endless quest for power and to satisfy his demand for strict loyalty by all agency heads. For example, the top personnel at the National Labor Relations Board, the EEOC, an important scientific agency and many other agencies have been completely changed and/or the agency itself gutted. In the case of the scientific agency it is yet further evidence of Trump’s desire to ignore our existentially dangerous environmental problems and to engage in mind control. Immigration? Folks forget that President Biden in early 2024 got the GOP to agree to a new enhanced southern border security bill, but Trump convinced House Republicans to kill the bill simply because he wanted to preserve the immigration issue for the 2024 election. However, it is clear that despite what Trump says Democrats do care about the security of the Southern border and keeping immigration under some reasonable control.***
But the major points of this video are: the GOP has nominated Trump three times to be President, this despite the Epstein situation, his criminal history and a whole series of events that would make any rational person question his ethics and his ability to competently lead our nation. In short, the GOP has enthusiastically supported everything he’s done at every turn, including torching our relations with our crucial NATO allies, taking us into the War with Iran (despite his National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard telling him Iran was not building a nuclear weapon) and watching him grab more and more power and in the process spread the cancer of incompetence and right wing extremism throughout our federal government. And we do not exaggerate. The whole Trump presidency has been the most shameful and incomprehenisbly stupid display of collective blind recklessness and moral breakdown of a political party (the GOP) that can be imagined.
As such, the American public cannot in any way shape or form, trust the Republican Party to do anything responsible when it comes to Trump. Clearly our democracy is in great danger as long as the Republican Party controls government. Simply put, Americans must elect Democrats, and only Democrats ,to the Senate and the House of Representatives in November of 2026. It is far too dangerous to allow Trump 24 plus more months in office to further consolitdate his autocratic power and, further endanger our nation. In short, vote only for Democrats, no Republicans, in November no exceptions.
*** There are several critically important related factors that Trump has largely ignored when it comes to determining immigration policy. Because Trump never discusses these issues MAGA seems to have no idea about them either. The biggest are that our birth rates are too low. Our birth rates are at about 1.6 when the ratio required to maintain the population is 2.1. This will lead to an aging population and eventually to having too many retirees for the number of employed people necessary to support them. This whole subject gets into what an aging population will do the economy (it will hurt it) and the overall financial sustainablility of social security (it will kill it). Moreover, immigrants help to keep our food prices and construction costs down and, contrary what Trump says, their crime rates have been shown to be far lower than regular Americans. Facts are facts, and there is no getting around them. All of this leads to the conclusion that the United States actually very much needs a healthy amount of immigration to help sustain a healthy economy and to keep social security solvent. P.S. And yes we too are, at times, made a little uncomfortable with what seems to be increasing numbers of folks with cultural backgrounds and languages that are different from us. In fact, in years past we’ve written to our Senators expressing concern over this very issue. Having said that, never have we encountered a problem with anyone who appeared to be an immigrant from any nation or who had a cultural or religious background different from our own. Moreover, facts are facts, and though Trump and the GOP will never admit it, without immigrants we are in danger of losing our social security and economically harmful population loss. As we’ve stated elsewhere in the videos on this website, frankly, a lot of this problem stems from the fact that for decades now, worker pay, as a percentage of what CEOs make, has fallen, thus making having babies unaffordable for far too many workers.
