Hey Boyz
And all Yinz men women
and
terrestrial
And extra terrestrial
aliens
And anybody else
Who’s listenin’ out there
Stony Riva here
And yes
Buck and Suzi
Are fresh back from
Their trip to
The radio producer convention
In Vegas
I won’t ask them what happened out
There because
As we all know
What happens in Vegas
Stays in Vegas
Suzi is just rolling her eyes at me.
We kick things off tonight
With a singer songwriter
Who is probably best known for his
Eternal hit Drift Away
His considerable talents extended
From soul music
To country and pop
But here he does a tune that became
A hit with the British
Northern Soul crowd
Here’s
Dobie Gray singin’ Out on the Floor
https://youtu.be/U8-GC_vkAKw?si=qlmnh_0T0VV2BZvy
Yeah, that kicked it off kinda nice.
Our next group needs absolutely no introduction.
At least one of their albums Rumours
has been amongst
the biggest all-time album sellers of any type
having alone gone platinum a whopping 20
yes I said 20 times.
We’ve previously played the
Very early Peter Green fronted version of this band
Next up however we have the more well known
And more recent edition
Of Fleetwood Mac
With Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckiingham and Christine McVie
Green having exited many many years prior to this.
Stevie Nicks, Rick Vito and John Heron wrote this next tune.
For some reason this tune isn’t as well known as it should be
But I think all of Yinz will enjoy
Fleetwood Mac doing Paper Doll
https://youtu.be/s5SOmSEZGzY?si=AGIsG9zQpuPQLCNF
I don’t know about you but I think they
shoulda done more tunes like that.
Next up we have a tune that has a rich history
Whitey Shafer penned numerous hits for some of the biggest names
in country, including George Jones, Moe Bandy, and Merle Haggard.
Our next tune is one of Shafer’s most iconic songs,
It was co-written by him with country legend Lefty Frizzell.
Here’s ….
Whitey Shafer with I Never Go Around Mirrors
https://youtu.be/jpwPJ_0MKKk?si=DmdKWtB0kRp5l7gt
Well that’s it, for the first half.
Next up
Well, what can I say?
Because it’s that time again
Time for our station manager
Time for Rufus
I’m talkin’ about
Rufus Coldwater
With a few words
we’re very likely to soon forget
And I understand that he has
Somethin’ a little special for us
Take it away Rufus.

The GAME RMC’s Fight Song (the Underground Version)
Hey folks. Rufus here. I hope everyone enjoyed that, after all it is the biggest weekend of the year for those RMC and HSC folks.
But moving on, let’s face it. The President-elect is prone to making inflammatory statements. He even goes so far as to make threatening ones to some citizens who he has called the “enemy within”.
After carefully listening to Mr. Trump for almost a decade now, it is not unreasonable to conclude that he is not a student of the Constitution and one has to doubt whether he ever took a government class. Moreover one has to wonder if he even cares much about the law. He does, however, seem to know one heck a lot about group psychology and one cannot help but to notice that at times he does seem to imitate a couple of dictators of great historical import.
I’m not going to go into details, but the fact of the matter is that many, if not most, of the folks who voted for Vice President Harris are very worried that Mr. Trump has authoritarian ambitions. Despite this, Mr. Trump says very little if anything to assuage these concerns. In fact, he seems to almost go out of his way to fan the flames and deepen Harris supporter worries about his governmental intentions.
The sincere hope here is that responsible Republicans, particularly those in his future administration and in Congress, say and do more to keep Mr. Trump in-bounds so to speak and to get him to act as the President for everyone and not just for his MAGA supporters.
It is totally unrealistic for Trump and his supporters to expect Harris voters etc to just sit and “take it” so to speak when Trump says or does things that he must know are extremely offensive or frightening to those who do not share his views. At some point, one reaches a “fighting words” threshold. And that’s in no one’s interest.
In the meantime here some things that Trump and his supporters can do to maintain peace and civility.
- Not deploy the military within our country’s borders for any purpose, including the deportation of illegal aliens.
2. Not fire top military officers and pentagon officials and replace them with Trump “yes men” who, to all appearances, appear to be more interested in being loyal to Trump than in defending the nation against the military threats posed by foreign nations. Here again all military and pentagon appointees must be otherwise highly qualified for the positions to which they are appointed.
- Nominate a highly qualified, respected nominee for Attorney General and Directors of the FBI, CIA and all other intelligence agencies. With respect to the Attorney General I mean someone who the American Bar Association would endorse who has had significant prior experience with a major law firm, corporation and/or government experience. The nominee for all of these positions, but particularly the AG’s office and the Director of the FBI should not be seen as Administration “yes-men” or simply Trump loyalists simply because it will appear that those important and powerful offices will be used to promote an authoritarian agenda. In this regard, the Justice Department has always been operated as a special politically neutral department and if any political question is involved the traditional, customary and wise practice has always been to appoint a special prosecutor. This has been to maintain an important sense of impartiality both in appearance and in fact. All of these positions require nominees who are highly qualified and have relevant prior experience.
- As with the intelligence agencies, the nominees for the Secretary of Defense must also be very highly qualified and very probably should have top level military experience meaning they should be either a former general or a former admiral or have experience leading a large corporation with extensive Defense Department contractual connections. Here again, anyone who is perceived to be an overly zealous Trump supporter is likely to be perceived as a threat by Harris supporters.
Now I have to admit that in all of this I am now aware of the recent names put forward by Trump to head the Departments of Defense and Justice and for Director of National Intelligence. I’m talking about Ms. Gabbard, Mr. Gaetz and Mr. Hegseth. My own opinion is that all of these nominees fail to meet the criteria I just mentioned.
Gosh. I see now by the clock on the wall that I’m running out of time. My strong point, however, is this. By nominating folks who do not appear to be the best people available to fill those vital governmental positions Gabbard, Gaetz and Hegseth appear to be “yes-men”. Mere Trump loyalists who will go along with anything Trump says.
What also scares many folks, like myself, is that these nominees won’t really know what they are doing, and worse, will put the interests of Donald Trump ahead of that of the nation. In other words, they appear to be just the type of nominees a would be dictator would appoint. That is not the way to unite the country, in fact just the opposite.
I’m out of time now. I’ll probably have more to say about this in the future.
This is Rufus Coldwater
Back to you Stony.
—————————————————–
Thanks Rufus.
And thanks to you too GURU
For that rousing performance !!
And, Rufus
We’ll keep all of
Of what you said in mind too
Ahem
Oh well we can always hope…
anyway
Folks our Executive Assistant
Producer of Everything
Suzi has decided
After attending the convention in Vegas
That we need to mix it up more
And give the garage tunes a rest this week.
I said “Mix it up more? You can’t be serious
I already feel like a rudderless ship
Trying to corral a bunch of kittens.”
But she absolutely refused to go down to the garage
For tonight’s show
But bless her heart
She did suggest perhaps doing a tune
That she knows is near and dear to my heart
Simply because I used to sing it
after
my college GF who shared the
same name as the gal in the title
to our next tune….broke up with me
Moreover it’s performed here by
the very sadly enough
Long since passed
legendary bass player of the Who
In his sterling rock n roll
Solo album
Rigor Mortis
Folks, here’s
Probably the greatest bass player
In rock n roll history
John Entwistle performing
Roller Skate Kate
https://youtu.be/PcrMoYcmq9s?si=FaZHnihmoiFUpsJL
I gotta tell ya Rigor Mortis is a great album.
And somebody stole my vinyl version
At my mother’s wedding reception
Of all places
(her second marriage)
Oh well…
Next up
we have a band appearing
for the first time on our show
Hillbilly Moon Explosion, according the Oracle of Wiki
has heretofore been
an underground Swiss band
that originally formed in 1998.
To quote the Oracle:
“On the album Buy, Beg or Steal,
in the song “My Love for Evermore”,
[Emanuela] Hutter sang a duet
with Mark “Sparky” Phillips
from the British psychobilly
group Demented Are Go
I like this tune mucho
And I have a hunch that we will be
Hearing more from this band
In the future
Here’s…
Hillbilly Moon Explosion (featuring Sparky)
Performing My Love for Evermore
https://youtu.be/2rlYPb2plaY?si=2M1mXColZ4egZMkO
Aren’t they great?
I really liked that.
Well, it’s that time again
Yes, Rufus is back there
In the control room
Miming like he’s cranking away
Meaning its time
Time to wrap this edition up
Our cleanup act tonight
Was one of the major acts in the business
Back in the late 60s early 70s
They were kinduva band slash comedy act
Modelled by Hollywood after the Beatles
But we should give them credit because
They actually could sing and do some instrument playing
Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart
who had their own successful
Singing duo
Also wrote several hits for the Monkees
Including tonight’s cleanup tune
And so,
Without further ado
Here for the trip home are
The Monkees singing their big hit Valleri
https://youtu.be/wKGwiH2bw9s?si=pAWtwCVqHHSWtKkL
Well, that’s it folks
That’s all
There ain’t no more
Thanks for listenin’
This is Stony Riva
For Buck, Suzi, Rufus and GURU
Wherever he is…
Sayin’
Goodnight
And don’t ever ever let them bed bugs bite!
