Trump 9 Months In: What to do

OPINION and ANALYSIS

Even though 2025 is not a big federal election year, the state races, especially in New Jersey and Virginia are very important.  Why? Many will say that the races in those two states will give Republicans and Democrats in Congress valuable feedback on what the real level of support is for Trump and his policies.  In the video on this subject we also make many other important points that are well worth the watch.  Some of the video’s slides are at the bottom of this page, followed by our closing thoughts.

Below are some of the highly relevant slides, some of which I did not have time (within the Youtube 3 minute short requirement) to address. Here they are:

And only as we were editing this page did we realize that we forgot to include one slide in the video.  Here it is:

We have to confess that the omission was/is a little embarrassing.  We think it important for our readers/viewers to know that we do try to be fair and balanced. In fact, we’ve always thought of ourselves as centrist.  After all: (i) we were Republicans once (albeit decades ago); (ii) we believe that Democrats get too caught up in identity politics; and (iii) we are generally uncomfortable recommending strait party-line voting.  Moreover, we prefer to look at things issue by issue.  Unfortunately however, these are very unusual  and dangerous times and frankly, there is no Republican Party any more –at least as it once existed.  Instead there’s only Trump and enablers who call themselves Republicans.  However, today’s Republicans do not believe in a Republic at all. They believe in an autocracy headed by Trump.  Clearly they don’t stand up to Trump when he usurps excessive and dictatorial power by declaring a multitude of emergencies that simply never existed, except by Trump’s own pronouncement.  Today’s Republicans do what Trump says.  And, Trumps wants to be a dictator.  Todays Republicans are as close to betraying our Constitution and our democracy as they can possibly be, and we are being charitable when we say that.   With his appointment of a multitude of unqualified sycophants to head the various governmental departments  and agencies, his actions in putting his own unqualified people at the head of all military, law enforcement and intelligence agencies and his willingness to dream up one emergency after the next giving him unchecked power, this President may have already wrecked our government and our Constitutional framework forever.  And today’s Republican Party let him do it.

Moreover, we believe that Trump’s Republican Party is in fact fascist simply because there seems to be a racial/ethnic element to his  autocratic policies which, in typical fascist fashion, is coupled with an excessive emphasis on exaggerated notions of nationalism.  Yes, there are is an occasional Black or other non-Caucasian official in his government or who supports him, but frankly, they, like virtually all of Trump’s lieutenants are Uncle Tom’s, sell-outs and/or opportunists who would sell their own Mother’s –or their race– down the river to advance their own careers.

When  Biden and the Democrats left office we had 2.9 percent inflation, 4.1 percent unemployment and a functioning government and healthy institutions run by competent veteran officials.  We hadn’t insulted our friends, NATO was healthy and we were the leaders of Western Civilization with its democratic ideals. Things weren’t perfect, but they were reasonably good.

What’s happened is simply  inexcusable and unbelievable.  At least Germany was going through the Great Depression with 20 to 30 percent unemployment and periods of hyper-inflation when Hitler rose to power.  Americans, even though they were not facing a crises, let itself be seduced by a Demagogue, ( the Anti-Christ might be a better word) who has a criminal record (essentially for lying), had several bankruptcies, who wrongfully tried to overturn Biden’s 2020 election (in fact, the Colorado courts found Trump to be an insurrectionist) and who was found by a jury to be liable for non-consensual sexual contact (sexual abuse).

It simply boggles the mind !  How can Americans be so stupid and irresponsible–TWICE?  Fox News, the memory of Rush Limbaugh, and right wing media, all fine-tuned propaganda machines, very probably bear a sizable chunk of the blame.

It’s difficult to overstate our anger.
