The purpose of this blog is to discuss, enlighten and educate the reader about relevant political, economic and business matters and to help maintain both a record and an appreciation for good old man-made music before AI makes man and real music a mere afterthought. ]
Good evenin’ folks
Stony here
Along with the rest of the crew
Here at DJ Ltd
To bring Yinz an evenin’ of
Toe tappin’ tunes and some
Good old fashioned fun
Ok,
Our first tune tonight
was of course made famous by
Iggy Pop.
It was written by Iggy and Ricky Gardiner
And while Iggy’s version is great
After you hear our first artist
Your gonna wonder if she
or should I say our next band
made this tune their own
Here’s
Siouxsie and the Banshees with The Passenger
https://youtu.be/4nAON-MwUPY?si=av-uODKRO3cBIzPU
Yeah that’s a great tune
Perhaps a tad repetitive but once in the groove
Always in the groove
For those that like to debate
the issue of
which is more important horns or guitars
That tune is definitely in the horn camp
…Iggy I don’t believe used horns
And Siouxsie’s version definitely
Takes it up a notch with the horns.
By the way
Siouxsie’s real name
For all yinz trivia fans out there is
Susan Janet Ballion
She’s had a very interesting life for sure
Next up and in keeping with
Our efforts to bring you folks tunes
From all over the world
Is a lady whose career goes back a while
According to her own LinkedIn page:
Originally from Trinidad Tobago
Mavis’ musical beginnings as a pre-teen
in the 1950s saw her performing in nightclubs
to selected friends, entertaining United States
soldiers at the US Naval base in
Chaguaramas, Trinidad, and serenading
Trinidad and Tobago many weekends
over on the national radio programme ‘Sunday Serenade.
She’s also been a teacher and an actress.
Here’s
Ms. Mavis John
Singin’
Use My Body
https://youtu.be/9UNgtGEAvi4?si=tIz5dMcdHmXAj5ns
Alright ! We are really movin’ now
Two babes have got us goin’
So we may as well stick with a winning formula
Next up is a lady who needs no introduction
She’s not only been a great singer
But also a movie star
According to the Oracle of Wiki
She has 44 career Top 10 country albums,
she also has 110 career-charted singles
over the past 40 years.
She has composed over 3,000 songs
Holy Moses!…
That is like writing one tune a day
for more than 8.2 years straight!
And recently, she even got elected to the
Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
Not sayin’ Dolly isn’t a great great artist
Because obviously she is
But Rock n Roll ?
Anyway…let’s put that highly debatable point aside
For a moment and dig
A truly great tune that she wrote
let’s just say…. a little while back
Here’s
Dolly Parton with Jolene
https://youtu.be/Ixrje2rXLMA?si=y9BKxUYuHnd-bg9Z
Yeah no doubt
that’s really a great great tune.
Well that brings us to half time tonight
And Yinz folks know what that means
It’s time for our Station Manager
Rufus Coldwater to give us
A few words of wisdom
On a topic
None of us give a hoot about.
Take it away Rufus
By the way…just kidding
———————————————————————
Ha…. Ha…. Ha
And may the Bird of Paradise defecate on your steamy Brussel sprouts
But thanks Stony
Rufus Coldwater here
We still don’t know who Kamala Harris is going to choose as a running mate and if you folks are like me you’re already tired of 2024 election news. Just kidding.
We’ve already said this too many times, but we believe that rule by the super-rich posed a big danger to everyone. In essence, the super-rich have become the new royal class. Elon Musk is a prime example. And recently he only threw gas on the fire by posting a AI-generated deep fake video of Kamala Harris criticizing Joe Biden. The New York Times was one of the first, if not the first to report this story which has now been widely reported by numerous other news sources.
Then our own Dave Lentz did his own 2 short 1 minute videos on this very important subject. Unfortunately, he got very few views on these videos. The bottom line is that the word is out that his videos stink or the general public doesn’t sufficiently appreciate the vitally important implications of this story. While it might be a little bit of both we will leave it to you folks to dig a little deeper. In the meantime, all I will say is think of how scary it would be if one person had control over space, communication and machine/human brain interface technology.
Here’s the New York Times story: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/27/us/politics/elon-musk-kamala-harris-deepfake.html
Here are Mr. Lentz’s video links the first deals specifically with the Musk story: https://youtube.com/shorts/v3fD19JKOfM
And, the second is a more general piece on the same subject, but not specifically referencing Mr. Musk:
https://youtube.com/shorts/x_P-yN3Ju04
We’ve also done a blog posts on Musk’s $50 Billion (billion with a “B”) bonus and other related issues: https://reasonandbalance.com/musk-50-billion-bonus-plutocrac/
Well, that’s about it for now. Thanks for listening. Back to you Stony.

Okay,Rufus thanks.
Folks we’re gonna kick off the 2d half tonight
With a tune by one of founding fathers of rock n roll
Our Assistant Executive Producer of Everything
…none other than our own Ms. Suzi…
Musta
Somehow
excavated our next golden gem
From the sarcophagus of
Of some rock n roll Pharoah mummy
Buried in a yet undiscovered pyramid.
Suzi, all I can say this is a real treat
And after the show we may be forced
To turn this over to the Smithsonian
I don’t think I’ve heard this musical gem before
Folks, this tune is by
A fella the Oracle of Wiki tells us
Was originally named
Ellas Otha Bates
But everyone knows him as
Bo Diddley
Here he is
Playin’ his ggeettar
And singin’
Let Me Pass
https://youtu.be/2kLFlH1zKQk?si=WvhtxICMeSHx1tTq
I don’t know about Yinz folks
But I just go crazy over 60s go go girls.
Next up is another gem Suzi has given us from the garage
Again according to the Oracle of Wiki
St. Louis Union was a short-lived mid 60s English
Breakbeat rock band from Manchester England
Originally known as the Satanists
after they changed their name,
they won the Melody Maker National Beat Contest,[2]
in front of a 3,700 sold-out crowd on 15 August 1965
at Wimbledon Palais, leaving
a fledgling The Pink Floyd
(later known simply as Pink Floyd)
in a lower placing.
Here’s St Louis Union with
East Side Story
https://youtu.be/pLp0A0dY5jo?si=ZWSjZHs2WVnzbFqJ
Wow ! I loved that Suzi
Great job….Again !!
They reminded me there of the Animals just a little.
But that tune really hit the spot for me.
You folks in the audience can rest assured
We’ll be hearin more from the St Louis Union
In the near future.
Okay, folks
I see by the big hand
And the little hand
On our clock’s now sad face
That it’s time again to wrap tonight’s show up
And since we’ve paid our respects already
To one of rock n roll’s founding fathers
Bo Diddley
Let’s hear a tune that was originally written
By another legend of that era
Our last tune was originally written by
Fat’s Domino
And I love Fat’s
Just great great stuff
But here we have another legend
Taking one of Fats’ great tunes to a new level
This is one of the greatest slide ggeeettarists ever out there
I love this version of this tune
Here’s the one and only Ry Cooder doin’
My Girl Josephine as only he can
https://youtu.be/fPVF5lTw8Pk?si=GFS9AQJxgn9pHGcH
Well, that’s it
That’s all
There ain’t no more
Buck is frantically signallin’ me to wrap this up
So for Buck, Suzi, Rufus
…and Guru..whereever he is.
Thanks so much.
I’m Stony Riva
Good night
And
Don’t let the bed bugs bite.
