Heeeeeesss baaaack !
https://youtu.be/aFTTB6gOAJA?si=OxOhMqYj6xqJXTHd
Oh don’t we wish !
Hey folks
Stony Riva here
That, of course, was Bugs Bunny and crew
Who used to start every school kid’s Saturday morning
What a great great show that was
What memories.
Which brings me to our show
Simply put
We’re here to keep real music
that is….
Red blooded
Livin’ breathin’
Actual man-made tunes
…and not that tepid
AI slash auto -tuned card board
Crap they beat us with today…
ALIVE !
More about us in a minute but
For now
It’s on to the business at hand
…which is the music
We’re gonna kick off the music with
One of GURU’s favorite Motown tunes
From way back in the day
Actually they started in the 50s
And performed for decades
If this doesn’t getchya movin’
Nothin will
Ain’t no sin to have rubbery legs for this one
https://youtu.be/KoE0paDCcls?si=TIlU5xdueGzON__-
That of course was Rubberband Man
By the band originally from Detroit
Known at one time or another
As the Detroit Spinners and/or the Motown Spinners
But they eventually settled on simply “The Spinners”
The Spinners had many great hits
Rubberband Man reached number 2 on the Billboard charts
In 1976
But to my way of thinking it’s clearly a number one.
Okay, next we move to more of a Nashville sound
Actually this is one of those great country classics
That will help our now rubbery legs recover quite nicely
This classic by Bill Anderson came out in 1963
It reached number 1 on the country charts
Here’s Still by Bill Anderson
https://youtu.be/AMtIVKZ2WJk?si=t7EAyf1uj0u3HJEl
Well now that I’ve gotchya all calm and relaxed
Let’s tell yinz a little about
Why the name change and
What happened etc etc
First of all
Rest assured
Here with me
is the rest of the old
Tick’s Notes and Tunes gang
Yep
Every last one of us
It’s been a few months
And some of yinz out there
Are probably new
So I think it best
To give everyone a refresher on who we are
Let’s start with the man
With the man who gets the biggest paycheck
The man who
has an opinion
About everything
…Who cares if nobody else does….
Rufus ….
As in
Rufus Coldwater
Our station manager
Rufus will usually have an editorial for us
At half time
And oh yes
Before we forget
our engineer/tech guru
the guy who
Keeps us on the air
Back there in the control booth
The old Buckaroo
Or you know him as simply
Buck
And although you can’t see her
I’m so glad I can
Cos she’s definitely a sight for sore eyes
Over yonder is our gorgeous
And highly intelligent
Damsel who’s never in distress
The gal with anything and everything
You’d ever need
And then some
Our sexy Assistant Executive Producer
Of Everything and oh
Yes, how could I forget
Also the Keeper of
our Crypt …er I mean
Our garage’s heap of old 45’s.
Records that is
From back in the day.
I’m talkin’ of course about
….Ms. Suzi
And, then there’s our great sage
Wherever he may be
Always here, there or who knows where
to keep us enlightened and informed
Be about the finer points about a performance,
A song, an instrument, a band or whatever
I’m talkin about GURU.
Because that’s exactly what he is
The all knowing
Sage
Or at least he thinks so
Of all things musical
Who has been known to sing a song or two
From time to time.
And of course yours truly
Your Yinzburgher resident DJ here to keep
Everyone jukin’ and jivin.
But enough of the stuff
Most of Yinz already know
Let’s get on to the main festivities
Oh and one more thing
For the record
We’ve changed our name
Why Red Blooded Tunes?
Well, it’s simple
Ain’t no AI involved
Ain’t no fancy tech
Everything that you’ll hear here
Is and was living breathing
Red blooded
Manmade
No robots
No computers etc
Actually it was all Tick’s idea
He thought our new title get to what this show is all about
More so than Tick’s Notes & Tunes
So with Tick’s blessing
And his permission to use his logo
We’ve changed our name.
From Tick’s Notes & Tunes
To simply
Red Blooded Tunes
Okay that’s that
Now everyone’s up to speed
Next up is a tune
That interestingly enough
GURU, who, by the way is texting me as we speak,
Says he’s going to do at Bubba’s in just a few minutes
GURU of course fancies himself as quite the singer
This is really an interesting selection for him
Because he’s a little longer in the tooth
Than this tune might suggest
But one thing for sure
He’s our resident expert on all things musical
And having heard him sing
More times than I care to admit
I don’t think he’ll have any trouble at all
In any event
It’s time to turn more than one page of the calendar
Yes, folks we’re headin’ all the way up to the 90s here
This next tune got to number 1 on the charts
It’s by a band from Cinderford Gloucestershire
That, of course, is in England
Tom Jones actually covered this song but
Let’s give the original artists their due
https://youtu.be/sfCLt0kTd5E?si=CvympuS07UGhpTQl
That, of course, was EMF with Unbelievable
Unbelievable was supposed to be the intro to our next guest
Or I should say or to our station’s editorial
But management is kindly giving us some extra time tonight
…after all this is a special occasion…
The return of Stony and the gang
Given that we have an extra few minutes
I thought that it might be best
As a fitting intro to our
Resident Know it all…
You know him
As Rufus Coldwater
That we kinda set the mood
So dig if you will
one of our fav pieces of music
You might remember it from
That great Apocalypse Now helicopter scene
But I, having the privilege of having seen
All 4 of the Wagner’s Rings,
Because to see any of the 4 Ring operas
Is more than a real treat
https://youtu.be/xeRwBiu4wfQ?si=eDCMn0y-iZX5F2K9
Folks, I’ve got to say
That is, simply put
Just awesome
GURU says he gets hoarse for a month just
Listening to those endlessly extended
Stratospheric notes those ladies are pumping out
for what to a singer seems like eternity
Yep, that’s what it’s all about
No microphones
No auto tune
Just raw, naked, awesome,
And most importantly
Man-made
musical power
From triumphant cockiness to sheer terror
For those not in the know that’s a very pissed Wotan
(King of the Gods) approaching on the horizon
at the end of that scene.
Could he have his recalcitrant daughter Brunilde in tow?
What’s wrong with her?
Will the other Valkyries share her fate?
Before I get any more carried away with Wagner’s Ring operas
Here’s the elder statemen of our entourage
Our Wotan if you will
Rufus Coldwater
With a few enlightening words.

Thanks Stony
That’s quite an introduction….
Folks I can’t tell you how happy I am to be back on the air again.
So what’s new? Well, of course we had that very unfortunate government shut down essentially over
Obamacare versus the Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
Let me just say this. If it were not for Obamacare I might be blind. Since the time it was enacted, I’ve had no less than seven surgeries in the hospital. Five of them were retina related.
My cousin is a doctor. A radiologist to be more specific. He owns a “magnet” which is what they call an MRI machine which, as everyone knows, is how they look at your insides. MRI’s are far better than X-Rays. In Virginia, you cannot buy an MRI and simply open an MRI center to do imaging scans on patients. No, the medical profession, won’t let folks do that. And that’s true even if you’re a doctor. If you want to open an MRI imaging center you must first get a “certificate of need”.
I raise this point because the Republicans and Trump say they object to Obamacare because it doesn’t keep medical costs down. I frankly don’t see where they’ve come up with anything to keep medical expenses down either, but Obamacare is designed to provide medical care by making medical care affordable, not by keeping medical expenses down, but by helping Americans pay for it. For many years now Americans have spent a lot more for their healthcare than other western nations. And, the biggest reason is the sky high rates Americans pay doctors and hospitals for medical services. There’s no excuse for that.
Anyone who has taken introductory economics knows that if you increase the supply of anything the price of it will go down because patients, being the buyers, will also be better able to shop for the best price for medical services because there will be more medical service providers. Thus, the additional competition among sellers will drive the price down. In this case, if people could just open additional MRI centers without the need of getting a certificate of need (which is expensive to get) then there would be more MRI centers competing for business which would drive MRI costs down. In fact, they are a major medical expense, and driving their cost down would save patients and medical insurers, not to mention the federal government, Medicare and Medicaid programs tons of money.
But I’m not just talking about MRI centers. If, for example, we established more medical and nursing schools and/or medical equipment manufacturers we would create more competition amongst medical service providers, which would drive other medical costs down. Naturally, there will be startup costs involved and thus the federal government ought to provide loans, grants and/or tax breaks to those involved in providing additional medical personnel, equipment services and facilities. If done correctly federal financial assistance will end up saving both the government and its citizens a lot more money than the expense of the federal assistance.
Something must be done about the overly expensive medical costs we pay and the foregoing is a straight forward way to do so.
Just a little food for thought.
I’m so glad to see everyone again, figuratively speaking of course.
That’s my two cents.
This is Rufus Coldwater. Back to you Stony
——————————————————————————–
Rufus, you musta been practicin’ your spiel
The whole time we were off the air.
You still got it big daddy !
But enough of that serious stuff….so movin’ on
I believe Suzi
Our Executive Assistant Producer of Everything
can talk me into just about anything.
Usually I follow her suggestions in the 2d half of the
Show when she ventures into our garage and brings us
A musty, if not tasty, musical morsel
Often of the 60’s garage rock, psychedelic or something
As we old Hippies used to say …”Really far out” stuff
And tonight she doesn’t disappoint
Once again she brought me something that I can’t stop
Playin’
Here it is
Wondrous Place by the Cherokees
https://youtu.be/126PFC_GsKE?si=nZ93s1YlRGfmY-0U
Ya know they don’t pay you enough Suzi, great job!
That tune was written by Jeff Lewis and Bill Giant
It’s called “Wondrous Place”
Which and first released
by American singer Jimmy Jones in May 1960
British rocker Billy Fury also released a
more reflective version of
it as a single in September 1960.
Next up is a guy
Who to me at least
Is the coolest singer ever
I simply love his stuff
But unfortunately for me
And his legion of other music fans
He had heart trouble
And it took him at a very early age
But not before he laid down some great great hits.
Here’s the one and only
Bobby Darin
With Beyond the Sea
https://youtu.be/m8OlDPqYBLw?si=DbFS1RKF8HHuYiYo
Next, believe it or not
we actually get into this century.
Our next group
Really just a duo
from England
That consists
Of Will Gregory and this lady
Their musical genre is described by the Oracle of Wiki
As…”synth-pop, electroclash,
trip hop, folktronica and ambient”
I guess one could say that gives them room to move
In any event here’s Alison
Fronting the group bearing her name
Goldfrapp
Performing their hit
Strict Machine
https://youtu.be/8_exjjrVCws?si=Iq68c8mZzdInnDU1
Looking Goldfrapp’s body of work I’ll bet Alison is an interesting person
To talk to
Anyway, unfortunately
Time does indeed fly
When you’re having as much as I’ve had tonight
but
that’s all we have time for
Old Buckaroo is in the control room
Just crankin’ his arms away
Signaling me to wrap it up
But I can’t bear to just cut everyone off
Cold turkey
That wouldn’t be sporting of me
Would it?
So, let’s pick one here
Ah….thanks Suzi
Just in the nick of time
Folks Suzi wants me to
Lay this one on ya
As we put this one in the history books
I just want Yinz to know
That we are all oh so glad to be back
Here’s a rather festive Suzi suggestion
That seems very appropriate to take
The crew here down to
Our local watering hole at Bubba’s
To celebrate our resurrection
From all of us
To all of you
Here’s a great tune for the road
Goodnight
And don’t let the bedbugs bite
https://youtu.be/SCgX4ixCRcQ?si=yn3wyeBNzMr06SDH **
