J. Michael Luttig, a highly respected retired judge who sat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit recently published an article on the New Republic where he essentially stated that the GOP has abandoned its commitment to upholding the Constitution and has chosen to follow Trump. For any judge to write about this subject, let alone make such an accusation, is alarming. And, what makes Judge Luttig’s article even more extraordinary is that in legal circles Judge Luttig was/is highly respected and, of all things, an appointee of George H.W. Bush. In short, he’s a Republican.
