Defund the Courts: Trump’s Latest Assault on Democracy

In Trump’s latest attack on the Constitution and our democracy he sent out his chief lieutenant Stephen Miller to suggest that the U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia should be defunded by Congress.   House Speaker Mike Johnson seems to agree.  Why?  Because the DC federal district court has been enjoining/stopping Trump from doing anything he wants and violating the law.  This is nothing but an attempt to intimidate ALL federal courts into being submissive.  Otherwise they may be out of a job.  This totally goes against the customs long associated with our functional balance of our constitutional system which has three CO-EQUAL branches of government.  The Republicans control both houses of Congress and to date they have shown insufficient willingness to stand up to Trump- when he attempts to overstep the recognized bounds of his lawful authority.   Only the courts often stand in the way of Trump’s attempts to seize dictatorial power because the Republican controlled Congress will not do so.
