Good evenin’ everybody

Stony here.

My my my

It’s almost year end

Time is just flyin’ by

We’ve got lots of ground to cover

So let’s get goin’

We lead off tonight with an artist

We all know and love

He’s most famous for

Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone

And

Just the Two of Us

He’s in both the Rock n Roll

And the Songwriters Hall of Fame

Here from

Slab Fork West Virginia is

Bill Withers with  Lovely Day

https://youtu.be/bEeaS6fuUoA?si=OeNiCWWUwRBPsm00

I just love Bill Withers’ voice, don’t you?,

Next up we’re goin’ where early R&B meets soul

This artist, according to the Oracle of Wiki

Was sometimes known as the Black Elvis

And, according to the

Orcle of Wiki

his full throttle on stage act featured

knee-drops, splits, spins, back-flips,

one-footed across-the-floor slides,

removing his tie and jacket and

throwing them off the stage,

basic boxing steps like advance and retreat shuffling

Sound like the Godfather of Soul?

Good guess…but you’re wrong !!

but it’s a guy who likely heavily influenced JB

In any event, he and Elvis were great friends

Unfortunately he passed on too early

At the age of 50

Here he is

Motown native

And Rock n Roll Hall of Fame member

Jackie Wilson singin’

Baby Workout

Next up we have

A London based

Dance pop band

Who were popular in the 90s

They had a hit

With a tune called

A Better Love

But are most famous

For our next tune

Which always seems to get people goin’

Here’s

Londonbeat  with

I’ve Been Thinking About You

https://youtu.be/bDwI_cJ7Eds?si=gxG6eq1stEtH0U7P

Okay as luck would have it

No editorial tonight

So that means we can do more fun stuff.

Like good tunes

Okay then

Everyone always looks forward

To the segment of our broadcasts

Devoted to our Assistant Executive Producer

Of Everything

We’re talkin’ Suzi here

Anyway she’s done did it again

She’s gone to our garage

And pulled out two tunes

For us to dig on.

She knows I just love the garage stuff.

And

We know

She has great taste

The first tune is from 1966

My research on the group is too spotty

To say anything concrete about them.

So let’s just cut the chatter and enjoy

The Oscar Five  with  I Won’t Be Your Fool Again

https://youtu.be/sBxN5dSRVpE?si=LeGIQJ-TIPT5r8Rk

Next up is another band formed around 1966

The Oracle of Wiki describes them as

A freakbeat/psychedelic rock band

This was their first hit.

The tune itself has an interesting history

Because several bands recorded it including the Standells

(which we featured here a year or so ago)…

In fact,

the Standells version of this next tune

was banned in several parts of the

Country as being too sexually suggestive

In any event here’s the Attack version of

Try It

https://youtu.be/RNgV0a_2ssg?si=xrF6nRkgbCdXRpTs

STOP THE PRESSES !!!

HOLY BUDDY HOLLY!

What do we have here?

Folks

Our own GURU has just texted me

My goodness gracious !

Geeezz!

Woah!

Folks, this is a family friendly show

So I won’t get into the details

But….oh what the Heck

It seems that GURU was on stage

Singing this next tune last night

And apparently there were two guys

Just havin’ a dandy time

at a table right in front of the stage

If ya catch my drift

(as Seinfeld might say

“….not that there’s anything wrong with that”)

Anyway, at the start of this next tune

The two guys got up and started dancin’

With mucho gusto

Anyway, after wingin’

And swingin’ for a few bars

During the a later chorus

With GURU beltin’ out an

Energetic and

Emotionally evocative

“……Blue Hoewwwtttellll”

“……Blue Hoewwwtttellll”

one of the perhaps

overly appreciative dandies

approached our GURU

loudly proclaimed the letter “O”

and keeping his lips in that shape

Dropped down

To slightyly below

GURU’s Belt level

And bobbed his head ……

HOLY MOTHER OF…..!!!

This maneuver was

Made not only somewhat easier

But also more dramatic

Because GURU

Being on stage

Was already in an

Elevated position

Above the dancers

Thus making the whole

Episode look quite natural

And even choreographed.

GURU says he was never

Oh so glad

that he happened

To have remembered to

Zip up

AND wear his sunglasses

(as he always does) T

Because he’s sure

He had a look of pure horror

And embarrassment on his face

When all of this happened.

Eweee doggies

The actions always fast

And furious at Caddy’s

In any event

Here’s

the tune

That will now be forever

Etched in GURU’s memory

https://youtu.be/9A0LKQAwO24?si=ATXBjugEQSx2IUtM

that, of course, was Chris Isaak’s masterpiece

Blue Hotel.

Well now

Now that we’re all sated

[Cough cough]

….or at least some of us might be

….I guess….

Let’s move on to somethin’

That might be mood appropriate.

As yinz recall

Last week Suzi subbed for yours truly

And she kinda broke new ground

How you ask?

Well…she finished up with a very reflective tune

…which was a great tune…but not

A real rocker

Like yours truly

Normally comes up with

In any event.

It’s been a long long

Long long time

Since we’ve played an LZ tune

…probably too long

And since its gettin’ late

I thought I might

Conclude this evenin’s show

With a really cool late night tune.

The album from which this tune came

Had the impossible task

Of following what was/is arguably

The greatest rock album of all time

I’m talkin’ about the album that

Featured that tune

That every wannabe guitarist

Wants and/or has endlessly tried to play

I’m talkin….

…Stairway to Heaven

Stairway, of course, was on

LZ four.

But tonight’s last tune is from the

Follow up album

Houses of the Holy.

And to me just listening to this in isolation

Makes me realize why LZ

Was the “be all and all” band of that era

Boy does this take me back to  college days!

See if any of Yinz remember this golden nugget

Just be patient… get out your papers

..and whatever…

….it takes a minute or two to get goin’

https://youtu.be/_vG_mTt6hCs?si=FqdPr8GWy6v-QiUT

Wow! [long inhaling sound]

[burst of air…]

You’ll have to pardon me

But I may just have to stay here at the station tonight

[cough]

For those who may not know

that was

Led Zeppelin’s      No Quarter

Well, that’s it

Suzi, Buck and GURU all give their regards

So have a good night  and

Never never

let them bed bugs bite.
