Lou Reed, Phair, the Hawkmen, Northern Soul 60s Garage

[Editor’s Note:  This is the latest edition of Tick’s Notes and Tunes. It is a transcript of a fictional radio broadcast with direct links to the tunes being played.  The transcript is in 3 parts.

(1.)The first is the first half of a transcript of the radio broadcast with tune links; (2.) The Editorial: (which normally deals with the subject in the title of this post) Today there is no editorial ; and (3.) The second half of the radio broadcast with tune links.

The purpose of this blog is to discuss, enlighten and educate the reader about relevant political, economic and business matters and to help maintain both a record and an appreciation for good old man-made music before AI makes man and real music a mere afterthought. ]

Hey everyone

Stony here

Have we got a show?

Have we got a show?

Well, I’ll tellya

Indeed we do.

Buck is in the control room

Givin’ me that crankin’ motion

Which means he wants me

To move this baby along

Which I’ll gladly do

Because our first tune

Is from a guy

Who was once an integral part of the

Velvet Underground

And our first tune goes back to those MTV days

In the 80s when the music videos were actually great.

This tune and video in particular happened to be on

When I proposed to my ex

Talk about foreshadowing

I should have been payin’ closer attention to the tune

When I popped the question.

In any event, I put this as one of my top 2

Lou Reed tunes

And with so much marital disfunction in society

I’m sure that many of Yinz out there can identify

With the lyrics of this great tune

Here’s

Lou Reed  with  Red Joy Stick

https://youtu.be/2zWwmfQvdCI?si=DLkWyFLUTOZDi1ZS

Yep that’s a great tune alright.

So great in fact that

Our assistant executive producer of everything

Suzi went into her personal stash of CD’s

Remember those

….CDs…

And handed this next one to me

And yes indeed it will fit in nicely here

Because it is a great tune

That’s actually about the artist that you just heard

Here’s

Liz Phair with

Appropriately enough…   Hey Lou

https://youtu.be/K4LcFHMjH9k?si=g1KtIaklq3aUUlIB

Next up we travel once again across the pond.

We’ve have sort of made a habit…a pleasant one…

Of turning on the tunes they like up there

Up North

…that is in northern England

Where they seem to not be able

to get enough of American soul music

..especially the dancin’ kind

This next tune and the lady dancin’

Are sure to brighten anyone’s day.

Here’s a tune originally done by

Stevens and Foster called  I Want to Be Love

https://youtu.be/TapWMAVAtqo?si=a0BjKj6i2TjZM88J

okay I’m lookin’ over at Buck in the control booth

and he’s pointin’ at me

and mouthin’  “you’re the man”

Yeah, right!

Buck only butters me up like this

and says somethin’ like that

When he wants somethin’ from me

And in this case,….

Oh,….

I see

….

Yeah

Okay

……

Just as I thought

Folks, apparently Rufus Coldwater can’t be with us tonight

Now what?

Just a second folks

….

….

Folks, you won’t believe it

But our GURU

Whom we haven’t heard from in ages

Has just called in

Suzi took the call

And she says that GURU says

“never fear”

That’s easy for him to say

Anyway, Suzi says that

GURU suggests we play

A tune

And I must admit

That it’s a real rockin’ tune

In fact my boyz the Who did this

On  their greatest of alltime Live at Leads album

But what’s this?

GURU says that this is a better version

A better version than the Who’s version?

Suzi…tell him he truly is nuts.

Suzi says that GURU says to shut up

And just trust him.

Well, what can I say?

I mean after all GURU is GURU

Our great sage and spiritual guide

….musically speaking of course.

If GURU says its THAT good

I’m at least a little curious.

In any event…

Folks here’s a great great rockin’ tune

So without further ado here are

The Twilighters with their version of   Shakin’ All Over

https://youtu.be/6P1F6UTwGDI?si=fziHQXMnlqZIFBgs

Ewweee doggies.

I gotta admit Roger, Pete, the Ox and Moony

Aren’t anywhere near as good lookin’

And they certainly can’t move like that babe…

…for sure!

Okay, well since Rufus is a no show

We got time for an extra tune

And Yinz all know me

I’m a great fan of our next artist

And firmly believe that had he not died

So young

that he would have been

A superstar

I am constantly amazed at how many great tunes

This guy wrote….yet you never hear a word

About him.

Which is a big reason why we at DJ Ltd

are here.

To make sure that artists like our next one

Are never forgotten.

It might not be Sunday yet

But any time is a great time

To learn the Word

..especially if it’s comin from

Johnny Horton

And here he is singin’ a tune called

Blind Barnabus

https://youtu.be/glCY49n0hfI?si=GVG-o1tBAuKC9YEG

Now wasn’t that great?

Now I definitely have the spirit

But now that we’ve purified our soul….maybe

I think we deserve to allow ourselves to indulge

In more worldly pleasures with a group

that in the last few months or so

Has found more and more ways

to creep into our must play list.

Here folks, once again

Are the Hawkmen with

Soulful Dress

https://youtu.be/AkM5Ax1fuCM?si=etnPsPN1hU-2M0Tm

Well, congratulations folks

Yinz have survived another edition

of DJ Ltd

Buck is over there in the booth

Ripping his finger across his throat

Telling me we are way over time

And we gotta get out of here

…but wait… what’s this?

He’s holdin’ up 3 fingers

…what’s that Buck?

….Folks it seems we have 3 minutes

So I’ll just send all Yinz home tonight

With one final tune

That Yinz can listen to

As we go off the air

So, with that I’ll just say

goodbye

for Buck, Suzi, GURU and myself

And just remember

Don’t let the Bed Bugs Bite. !!

Here for the trip home is Steam with

Na Na Hey Hey
